Hotel Juan Carlos is an excellent hotel. In the past three
years it has improved significantly. The owner inherited the hotel from her
father and her daughter travels to the US periodically to keep up with American
standards. Most of the Juan Carlos Hotel guests are North American missionaries.
Both the owners and the hotel staff are very proud of their hotel and strive to
please you and make your stay the most enjoyable experience.
As you pull up to the hotel, you notice right away its
beautiful Spanish façade. Palm trees and brick planters decorate the entrance. Double doors let you into
the lobby. Walls are adorned with paintings
of local scenery. The pristine ceramic tile floors were kept neat even with the
high traffic guests coming in and out with dirt and dust residue in their shoes.
The rooms are pleasant and comfortable. Most of the rooms
have air conditioner. However, the single rooms and some double rooms have no
air conditioner. A ceiling fan or a pedestal fan will be provided to you. The
rooms are kept clean and there is maid service every day. No turndown service,
so don’t expect truffles at night. There is a newer side of the hotel where it
has remodeled rooms and bathrooms. However, the older rooms are also kept neat
and lovely. All rooms have television. Although, most are Spanish speaking
channels, there is a movie channel which plays films in English. And for all of
you sports buffs, there is ESPN available (in Spanish). You can still get the
latest scores of your favorite teams.
The bathrooms are very clean and the showers provide warm and
cold water. They do discourage flushing of paper because of the weak sewer
system. The hotel provided us with bottles of drinking water and we were
encouraged to use it even when brushing our teeth.
There is a scheduled front desk clerk who spends the night in
the hotel. And there is a phone available for you to call back home. You will
need a calling card or credit card to place the call or you could call collect.
The hotel also has a restaurant. The cook and waitress are
very accommodating to our meals and schedule. We were having breakfast as early
as 6:30 am. They were very punctual and prompt when serving our food.
Breakfast selections are: eggs, refried beans, corn
tortillas, chorizo (spicy sausage), French toast, pancakes and corn flakes.
Breakfast prices range from 20 to 48 Lempira ($1.10 to $2.70). You could get
just toast for 10 Lempira (60 cents). Beverages are included with breakfast. The
choices were milk, bottled juices and coffee. Coffee is brewed every morning and
is available at no charge.
Dinner selections: Grilled steak, smoked pork, shrimp
(breaded or with red spicy sauce), fried chicken, beans, rice and salads. Drinks
available are water, sodas, tea, and coffee. Dinner prices range from 70 to 140
Lempira ($4.00 to $8.00).
