About Us

Honduras is located in Central America and borders Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala.  It is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere.  One out of five people cannot read and the income per capita is approximately $3,100 per year. Subsequently, one out of five Hondurans cannot read.

 

Catacamas is a town of approximately 32,000 people located in the mountains about a four hour drive from the nearest airport, in Tegucigalpa.

• Pre-K, Kindergarten and grades one through six (2 classes of each)
• 40 kids in each class
• 640 total students (320 attend a morning session and 320 attend an afternoon session)
• Approximately 70 kids are on scholarship to continue their education through middle school, high school and college
• Fully equipped and staffed library
• 20 station computer lab with dedicated technology instructor
• The school year runs from February to November and is closed from mid-November to January
• Reputation as one of the very best schools in all of Honduras

 

School Governance

• U.S.-based Board of Directors oversees school finances and long-term strategy
• Honduras-based Board of Directors oversees the school administration
• Two full-time Directors manage the day-to-day operations of the elementary school and the Pre-K / Kindergarten
• 16 teaching professionals
